Stijn Cole (a.k.a. Stan Lee Cole)
Stijn Cole is a distinguished artist with a Master of Arts degree from the esteemed Studio Herman Teirlinck art school, which he obtained in 1999. With a diverse background in the performing arts, Stijn has made significant contributions to theatre between 2000 and 2008, writing, directing, and acting in numerous productions for Hetpaleis and Podium Modern. His innovative approach seamlessly integrates music and theatre, creating immersive experiences for audiences.
Stijn has dedicated himself to continuous learning, having pursued several online music courses at Berklee College in Boston and studying at the Jazzstudio in Antwerp. His commitment to music education enables him to remain at the forefront of his craft.
As a singer-songwriter known by the name Stan Lee Cole, Stijn has released and produced two albums. His acclaimed song “Separated” won first prize at the 2012 International Songwriting Competition, judged by industry legends including Tom Waits, Suzanne Vega, and Robert Smith. The accompanying music video, co-produced with Mark Borgions, earned a nomination for a Belgian MIA award, reflecting his high caliber of work.
Transitioning from the name Stan Lee Cole, Stijn now composes under his own name, further establishing his artistic identity.
Stijn also gained recognition for his role in the Belgian TV show Scheire en de Schepping, where he not only starred but also served as the show's one-man band for four seasons, showcasing his multifaceted talents.
As a founding member of the innovative a cappella beatbox group Off The Record, Stijn redefined live performance by creating music without instruments, captivating audiences and encouraging them to dance. He has produced records for various artists, including hip-hop sensation KRAMER and electro artist Samowar, and has performed at numerous prestigious festivals throughout the Benelux region.
In 2016, Stijn founded Earbug, a company dedicated to crafting exceptional music for film, television, and video games. Collaborating with some of Antwerp's most talented musicians—including Tom Pintens, Sam Vloemans, Ewout Lehoucq, Leen Diependaele, Dago Sondervan, Vincent Brijs, and Tom Van Vlierberghe—Stijn creates immersive soundscapes that enhance storytelling.
Stijn's commitment to excellence was recognized in 2020 when he received the prestigious Ensor Award for ‘Best Music’ for his work on Jeroen Perceval's film Dealer.
With an unwavering passion for storytelling across various mediums, Stijn approaches scoring with a unique perspective, merging his experiences as an actor and a musician to elevate narratives through music.
“I am constantly searching for ‘that’ sound—a distinctive signature tailored to each project. It’s a sound that may not yet be defined, but resonates when it is finally revealed. I cherish the unknown, that blank canvas that allows for the creation of something truly unique every time.”
“It has taken time, but I feel I have come full circle. My skills in producing and composing converge with my experience in drama, enabling me to create compelling soundscapes for the visual medium. Discovering a unique voice for each project is my greatest passion.” — Stijn Cole
